Important Update: DBS Identity Verification Process and Administrative Fee
The DDC want to let you know about an important update following recent DBS guidance regarding identity verification.
A change in process:
For applicants who post their documents to DDC, we are now required to complete a short video call to confirm the individual’s identity and review their original documents while on the call. This additional step will now form part of the verification process for all applicants who send their documents to DDC. The majority of the process, (completing the online form and nominating documents) will remain the same. We have outlined below the options available for your account set up.
Process 1: Digital Identity Verification
If you do not already have digital identity enabled on your account, this will be activated for you. Digital identity allows individuals verify their identity securely, during the online process, using their passport with no need to post documents or schedule a video call.
For those who complete the online application and go through the digital check, the administration fee will be £16+VAT.
Please note that this option is only available for those with a valid UK or Irish passport. If an applicant does not have these documents, or do not go via a digital identity route, then they will need to follow process 2.
Process 2: DDC to check documents
Applicants who post their documents to DDC will need to undergo a video call with one of our agents when the documents have been received in the post.
Due to the extra time and work involved in this DBS-mandated process, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to increase our administrative fee for in-post identity verification. This decision has not been taken lightly, but it’s necessary to ensure we remain fully compliant while continuing to provide a high level of service.
For those who go through the postal check, the administration fee will be £33+VAT.
ACTION REQUIRED: The DBS now require declaration of why physical documents cannot be checked in person with the applicant present. This will need to recorded on DDCs platform.
Please provide a short description of why an in-person document verification is not possible, and that DDC is providing the document checking in combination with the video call with the applicant.
If we have not received a response in the next 10 days, the following description will be used for your account: “Remote/independent working, not logistically practical or suitable for in-person check”.
Alternative process: Option to verify documents
You may wish, as an organisation to check your applicants’ documents in person, or to complete option 2 internally, where an applicant posts their documents to you to complete the video call.
If you wish to check documents on behalf of your applicants, the administration fee will be £16+VAT.
This includes encouraging applicants to use the digital identity verification option first.
We appreciate your understanding as we implement these changes in line with DBS requirements, and we thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Kind regards,
