Painless Practice
We recognise that physiotherapists have often not received a lot of training in running a business which often leads to frustration and burnout trying to balance being the clinician and business owner.
We support you on the non-clinical aspects of the clinic, whether that is growing your business, planning your exit, managing your team or getting a better work-life balance.
We help our clients to focus on their overall bigger, long-term picture and then put a clear plan in place. We support you to make the right short-term decisions, take action and keep you on track and accountable to the plan. We inspire and reassure our clients to push beyond their comfort zones to achieve the transformation they desire
We surround ourselves with other experts too so that we can connect physiotherapists with information, resources, people or suppliers. These may include useful frameworks to use for planning; recommended books or podcasts, support in finding team members or introductions to trusted third parties for required services such as accountants, HR professionals, graphic designers, web developers etc.
Being a clinician and running a business can be Painless!
Relationship between Physio First and Painless Practice
Painless Practice is a business that exists “to see a network of well-managed profitable clinics the length of the UK that provide cost-effective private physiotherapy treatment and improve the nation’s wellbeing. We aim to provide rewarding career paths and business opportunities for our clients.”
Its relationship with us has been carefully crafted to ensure that our own expectations are carefully managed and, like all good relationships, we have shared goals and shared effort.
The outcome for Painless Practice will be that, through being acknowledged as a strategic commercial partner working closely with us, it will move closer to its vision (outlined above).
The outcome for us is that we have a trusted partner who will provide us with time, energy, experience and expertise with a whole list of our business plan priorities.
Painless Practice has worked closely with Physio First to provide a suite of business-related CPD events. These workshops are connected, but not interdependent, and draw heavily on years of business education and coaching by Painless Practice.

Grow Your Practice
- Do you want a busier, more vibrant practice?
- Would you like to expand your team or number of locations?
- Do you want to get your associates busier?
Painless Practice can help. Before diving into the many ways you could market your practice it’s important to be clear about what success means to you. Painless Practice will guide you through outlining in detail what you want your future practice to be like, what kind of patients you want to attract to your practice, what kind of services you want to offer and what the best pricing strategy is.
To avoid the very common feast and famine cycles, they will support you in putting a simple marketing plan in place, including strategies to attract new patients, retain existing patients ethically and keeping in touch with current and former patients. As word of mouth is usually the biggest source of new patients they will help you to come up with easy to implement and effective ways to encourage more referrals.
Social media has taken the world by storm and has proven to be a great way to keep in touch with your patients and generate referrals. Having a plan in place is crucial to the success of social media.
They also recognise that the growth of your practice is not just what you do but also what your associates and reception team do. They are passionate about helping you to help your associates retain patients ethically and generate more referrals. Your receptionist is your director of first impressions, they have various ways to support you in making sure the first impression is a good one.
Get a better work life balance
- Do you feel like you’re working too many hours?
- Are you frustrated that your work seems to be all consuming?
- Does your business seem to suck the life out of you?
Life is simply too short to not spend it the way you want to. Not many peoples’ final wishes are to have spent more time working. It is far too easy to drift through days, weeks, months and years. And then get 30/40/50 years down the line and feel disappointed with where we are.
It is never too late to change. Painless Practice love helping their client’s live life on purpose – really being how you want to be and achieving what YOU want to achieve. We all have the same 24 hours in the day, it is how we use them that counts.
Painless Practice help you to firstly determine what you really really desire, identify what limiting beliefs are getting in the way and then what habits you need to establish or replace. Success comes from lots of little steps taken consistently each day, let them help you to determine what those need to be.
Stop coming up with excuses why things are not as you want them to be and start coming up with reasons why you want things to be different. Reduce stress by planning, being proactive and making the right choices so that years down the line you’ll be celebrating rather than regretting.
Get help managing associates and staff
- Would you like to be surrounded by a motivated team?
- Could your associates be better at retaining patients?
- Are your reception and admin team as effective as they can be?
Most therapists have not been trained to lead and manage teams and the nature of most practices is that the principal owner and the team are often passing ships in the night. Painless Practice can help you to overcome the many challenges that these two tough truths create.
Whether it’s supporting you in defining the perfect team members, creating job descriptions, getting your team on board or helping you to navigate through tricky situations such as poor performance, bad attitude or conflict, they have many options on offer ranging from regular telephone coaching to focussed leadership programmes.
Understanding what the ideal team is that your clinic requires is an important starting point. Painless Practice have seen clinic owners employing the wrong people time and time again or putting up with the wrong person for far too long (And once they part ways the clinic owner wonders why they did not take steps much sooner!)
Having the right team on board who are all aligned with the practice goals makes such a massive impact to not only the success of the practice but also the enjoyment of coming into work each day for the team and a great customer experience for the patients.
Plan your exit strategy
- Have you given your future much thought?
- Are you wondering if you’ll be able to sell your practice?
- Would you like to know how to increase the value of your practice?
- Do you want out?
The best time to think about your exit strategy is when you start your practice! The next best time is now. As the author of ‘Seven habits of highly effective people’ Stephen Covey says ‘begin with the end in mind’. All too often businesses grow organically with no clear end point in place or even more often, no clear plan to get to that point and when the owner/s near retirement, there is a sudden panic of getting the business in a saleable state or a manageable state ‘from afar’ or less hands-on.
If you want to sell your practice it is a lot more attractive to a buyer, and will, therefore, command a higher purchase price, if it is not reliant on you. A business sustainable without the owner is much more valuable than a business where you bring in the bulk of the revenue i.e. you are the main practitioner or the highest earning one.
Should you want to step back and have the practice give you a monthly income without working in it, the two vital things you will need to focus on are the people you bring on board and the systems you have in place.
Painless Practice can help you think through what the best model for your practice and exit is, what your succession plan needs to look like, what systems you need in place, how to get your practice ‘due diligence’ ready and how to maximise the potential of your clinic. Why wait any longer?
