Tutor biography

Steph Filbay

Stephanie is a physiotherapist who completed her PhD on longer-term quality of life following ACL injury, at University of Queensland in July 2016. She has received fellowships and awards to pursue this research at University of Southern Denmark, Linköping University and University of Oxford. Stephanie's research focus is on optimising outcomes following musculoskeletal and sports injury, with a specific interest in quality of life, anterior cruciate ligament injury, knee osteoarthritis and comparison of outcomes following surgical and non-operative management strategies. Stephanie has experience in a range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. She also lectures on physiotherapy and medical sciences courses and educates clinicians regarding evidence-based practice recommendations.

Stephanie is a Senior Research Associate at University of Oxford. She has supervised 14 individuals, and supervises a number of multidisciplinary researchers at various career stages, including visiting research fellows, PhD students and Postdoctoral Research Fellows. To date, Stephanie has 30 articles published or under-review (28 as first or senior author, 270+ citations, 88% in top 10% journals), a book chapter and 21 published conference abstracts. She has presented over 30 times at national and international conferences, provided 40+ scientific peer-reviews and won several grants, scholarships and awards for her research. She is on the Steering Committee for the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) Sport, Exercise, Physical Activity and Prevention of Osteoarthritis Special Interest Group; she is a Research Strategy Board member and the Early Career Researcher Representative for the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis Research Versus Arthritis; and is a member of the International Alliance For Optimising Knee Health After Injury.


Garrett Bullock

Garrett Bullock was a 4-year baseball letter winner at Wake Forest University, where he was captain in 2009. Bullock went on to play in the Houston Astros Organisation, playing professional baseball for 5 seasons. Upon retirement, Bullock studied at Duke University, where he was class president and received his doctorate of physical therapy. Garrett's professional experiences involve practicing sports and orthopaedic physical therapy, consulting for the professional and collegiate sport industry, and serving as a clinical instructor for physical therapists and athletic trainers. Garrett is currently the chief statistician for Functional Movement Systems and is a PhD candidate at the University of Oxford. Bullock has authored numerous scientific publications and has presented his work at various national conferences. His clinical and research focus is on athletic development and overhead athlete injuries.
