Course Tutors: Carol Owen MCSP and Jeremy Allen

Introduction

Many physiotherapists contemplate private practice at some time during their professional careers. Many expect private practice to be a ‘soft option’ or a ‘licence to print money’. For those who succeed in building a successful private practice, nothing could be further from the truth.

Aims

  • To examine some of the legal, financial and professional requirements
  • To understand the need for thorough business planning
  • To leave participants sufficiently informed to make an educated choice as to whether or not to enter private practice
  • To provide confidence through knowledge to those who do choose to enter private practice

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
    • assess the suitability of potential premises
    • assess practice management software
    • identify areas of professional weakness
    • develop a robust business plan
    • understand the need for careful financial planning
    • predict likely break even targets
    • make an educated choice as to whether or not to enter private practice
